Dexter: Original Sin is in full swing over on Paramount+ with Showtime, dropping two full episodes today to tide fans over through the holidays. Thus far, the prequel series has been an amazing throwback to the original while at the same time providing longtime fans with something new to sink their teeth into in the Dexter universe. Not only has the show been lauded by viewers and critics, but – as it turns out – the premiere episode managed to set all kinds of records for Showtime.
Per The Wrap, the debut episode of Dexter: Original Sin, titled “And in the Beginning…” was streamed by more than 2.1 million global cross-platform viewers, making it Showtime’s biggest streaming premiere in history. This shattered the record previously held by the first episode of Yellowjackets Season 2, which amassed 1.3 million viewers. To further highlight Dexter’s popularity, Original Sin also made the biggest social media splash for a Showtime premiere, with 657,000 interactions across various platforms like X and Facebook.

With numbers like that, it’s clear that, despite the divisive nature of Dexter: New Blood, fans are still eager to see what their favorite vigilante serial killer is up to, especially when it comes to his early days as a budding blood spatter analyst. Patrick Gibson has managed to earn high praise for his portrayal of a young Dexter Morgan, and rightfully so, as in addition to bringing his own nuances to the character, he manages to capture the essence of Michael C. Hall so well.
‘Dexter: Original Sin’ Introduces Us to Even More Characters We Love
One of the great things about Dexter: Original Sin has been seeing a fresh crop of faces put their own spin on the characters we came to know and love in the original series. Gibson has been great as Morgan, but let’s not forget about Christian Slater as his adoptive father, Harry, or Molly Brown as his foul-mouthed, trouble-making sister, Debra. Then we have the crew at Miami Metro: Angel Batista (James Martinez), Vince Masuka (Alex Shimizu), and Camilla Figg (Sarah Kinsey).
Episode 3 of Dexter: Original Sin, “Miami Vice,” introduced us to yet another fan favorite we’ve been waiting for: Maria LaGuerta. Portrayed by Christina Milian, we all know she’s eventually going to go on to become a lieutenant, and the captain of Miami Metro’s homicide division, but here she’s still a young go-getter that’s not afraid to rock the boat. Like Gibson, Milian is the perfect casting choice, as not only does she resemble the character first played by Lauren Velez, but she brings that same snappy attitude to the table that has a slight air of superiority.
With three episodes now in the can of Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series hasn’t lost any of its luster, and we’re still just as invested in it as we were at the start. It’s been an amazing ride so far, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us, and honestly – at this point – we wouldn’t be surprised if it somehow manages to stretch beyond a 10-episode event to continue on for a Season 2.
