In the aftermath of Crystal Palace’s win last week, Piers Morgan felt compelled to stir the pot while congratulating his fellow broadcaster Susanna Reid. It did not take long before his comments elicited an onslaught of sarcastic replies from football fans. The outspoken television personality had tweeted, “I know someone who will be screaming very loudly right now… congrats @susannareid100,” with celebratory emojis attached. As Reid is an ardent Crystal Palace supporter, she was likely celebrating the win of her team, but Morgan’s tweet quickly became bait that rival supporters wasted no time in mocking Morgan with.

The comments section was a battlefield of banter wherein many users highlighted that Morgan’s beloved Arsenal had failed to win any trophies this season! One user replying as SIGMA retaliated with, “Shameless Arsenal fans….. CRYSTAL PALACE have had a better season than Arsenal,” laced with laughing emojis. Another user replied plainly: “But your club @Arsenal is just there,” referring to the Gunners’ absence from recent trophies compared to those won by Palace.
Those jabs only continued in the replies with “One more trophy than Arsenal this season too,” drenched with crying-laughing emojis, while another jabbed, “I know a phone tapper who will never win a trophy,” alluding to Morgan’s controversial past. Even during the celebration for Reid, suggestive remarks were made: “He’s at the ground I’m sure he’ll make her scream later”-wink for extra evil.
While all the roasting was taking place, some commenters took the wholesome route and praised Palace for being community-oriented. One fan stated, “What I loved was the diversity in the Palace fans. I’ve never seen that much before. What a community club. Congratulations.” Others, however, were rejoicing over the winning moment with messages like, “Lovely. Well done Palace,” which implies that not all comments were focused on Morgan.
Still, the theme was relentlessly mocking Morgan, confirming once again that football rivalries never sleep. If ever Morgan had another idea in mind, his tweet was an outright invitation to rival supporters to remind him of Arsenal’s failures this season. And if there’s ever something the internet enjoys, it is kicking a high-profile figure while he’s down.

Morgan proved in fact that he is no stranger to online spatters. His latest conflict is just another usual day in the life of one of social media’s most polarizing personalities. Whether he will answer these storming laughs remains unknown, but is certain that Arsenal fans and their foes won’t ever let him live it down.
