Quentin Tarantino’s Last Film to Feature Pulp Fiction Reunion With John Travolta & Samuel L. Jackson, Rumors Claim

Summary

  • Quentin Tarantino’s final film, The Movie Critic, may feature John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson, as the director is reportedly saving roles for his former leading men.
  • The Movie Critic will be set in 1977 Los Angeles and will have a female lead, dispelling earlier rumors that it would be a biopic of critic Pauline Kael.
  • Samuel L. Jackson has responded coyly to the casting rumors while also expressing some discontent with the lack of diversity in Tarantino’s previous film, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.

The final film of seminal director Quentin Tarantino, The Movie Critic, will reportedly reunite with the filmmaker with Pulp Fiction star John Travolta. A new rumor, which comes courtesy of The Ankler’s Jeff Sneider and The Hot Mic podcast, claims that a role is being saved for Travolta in The Movie Critic, with Tarantino also hoping to cast several other former collaborators, including Travolta’s Pulp Fiction co-star Samuel L. Jackson.

“I hear Tarantino is saving a role in his final film THE MOVIE CRITIC for two of his former leading men. Here’s one of them…” Sneider said alongside the much-memed moment of Travolta’s character Vincent Vega looking lost in the acclaimed 1994 crime epic.

Not much has yet been officially revealed about The Movie Critic, but we do know that it will be set in Los Angeles in 1977 and center on a female lead. While early reports claimed that the movie would be a biopic of American critic Pauline Kael, this has since been debunked.

In response to fans asking if Samuel L. Jackson would also star, Sneider replied, He was already kinda out there,” before adding, “I’ve heard of another one… and an actress too.” So, who could these mystery cast members be? Uma Thurman? Brad Pitt? Christoph Waltz? Tim Roth? Only time will tell.

Casting John Travolta would of course be a wonderful move for The Movie Critic, with Tarantino rescuing the Saturday Night Fever star’s career once before by adding him to the Pulp Fiction ensemble.

Samuel L. Jackson Has Responded Coyly to The Movie Critic Casting Rumors

The Weinstein Company

Hollywood icon Samuel L. Jackson has been asked about the rumors he will reunite with Tarantino for The Movie Critic, with the actor responding coyly to the idea (via Vulture) with a short and simple…

Responding with a laugh, Jackson continued, taking issue with Tarantino’s 2019 awards darling, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. “Feels like it,” the actor said about the idea that he and the filmmaker “came up together.”

“But when I saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I mean, how many Black people are in that movie? Maybe three. It was kind of like watching Goodfellas. When I was in Goodfellas, it’s like me and somebody else.”

So, it’s possible that Tarantino will need to smooth things over with his six-time collaborator if he wishes to make him a part of his final movie.

Of course, it’s also possible that The Movie Critic will not be Tarantino’s final film at all. The director has stated multiple times over the years that he is thinking of retiring, with comments going back as far as 2012 (if not beyond). However, he has said for almost as long that he would like to make 10 movies and then walk off into the cinematic sunset.

“I’ve been doing it for 30 years, and it’s, it’s time to wrap up the show. Like I said I’m an entertainer. I want to leave you wanting more you know, and not just work and I don’t want to work to diminishing returns,” he said in 2021. “I don’t want to become this old man who’s out of touch, when already I’m feeling a bit like an old man out of touch when it comes to the current movies that are out right now. And that’s what happens.”

The Movie Critic does not yet have a release date, but is expected to be released in 2024.
