The New York Giants are firing defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Bowen’s tenure as the Giants’ defensive play-caller comes to an end after Sunday’s 34-27 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions. The 38-year-old was hired in Feb. 2024 following a three-year stint as the Tennessee Titans’ defensive coordinator.
This season, New York has lost five road games in which they led by double digits in the fourth quarter.
Outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen will serve as the team’s interim defensive coordinator, a source told NFL insider Josina Anderson.
Bowen’s departure comes two weeks after the club fired head coach Brian Daboll, who opted not to dismiss the embattled DC following late-game collapses versus the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos. New York elevated its offensive coordinator, Mike Kafka, to interim head coach after Daboll’s firing on Nov. 10.
The Giants rank 30th in total yards allowed per game (385) and points allowed per game (27.8).
