Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is expected to join USC to work with the team’s quarterbacks, sources told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Kingsbury is expected to become a senior offensive analyst under Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley, a source told The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.
The Cardinals parted ways with Kingsbury in January after four seasons following a 4-13 record in 2022.
USC previously hired Kingsbury as the program’s offensive coordinator in December 2018, but he resigned after a month following interest from NFL teams. The Trojans replaced Kingsbury with Graham Harrell.
Kingsbury served as the head coach of his alma mater Texas Tech from 2013-18, compiling a 35-40 record and a 1-2 mark in bowl games.
The Texas native struggled to find success on the NFL sideline. Kingsbury posted a .500 record in his second season in Arizona after going 5-10-1 in 2019 to begin his pro coaching career. The club appeared to turn the corner in 2021, finishing the regular season with 11 victories and earning a playoff berth.
However, the Cardinals failed to continue their positive trend, missing the postseason in 2022 following a season-ending injury to quarterback Kyler Murray. Kingsbury concluded his tenure in Arizona with a 28-37-1 overall record. He reportedly interviewed in February for the Houston Texans’ offensive coordinator position under new coach DeMeco Ryans.
