Report: Kittle sustained mid-to-low ankle sprain vs. Colts

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is dealing with a mid-to-low ankle sprain following Monday’s 48-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Kittle told reporters postgame that he believed to have sustained the injury during the second quarter after being on the receiving end of a hip-drop tackle. He attempted to play through the issue after taping up his ankle but left the game in the third quarter and didn’t return.

The Niners star recorded seven catches for 115 yards and one touchdown before exiting.

“I don’t think it’s a high ankle sprain,” Kittle said, according to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. “We’ll take it one day at a time, and we’ll go from there.”

San Francisco plans to monitor Kittle’s status ahead of Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. The Niners can earn the NFC’s No. 1 seed with wins in each of their final two regular-season games.

Tight ends Luke Farrell and Jake Tonges would likely see more snaps if Kittle is unavailable.

Kittle has the second-most receptions (52), receiving yards (599), and receiving TDs (7) among the team this season. The 32-year-old earned his seventh Pro Bowl nod Tuesday alongside five other 49ers, including Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams.
