The NBA is investigating two fans who were sitting courtside in San Antonio during the New York Knicks’ win over the Spurs to open the Finals on Wednesday, sources told Chris Haynes of Prime Video.
The league is reportedly looking into profane “flopping” comments allegedly made by the fans toward Knicks guard Jalen Brunson.
Brunson appeared to exchange words with someone near the scorer’s table during the final minutes of Game 1. The three-time All-Star approached crew chief Scott Foster immediately after the buzzer, seemingly to discuss the interaction. Brunson then appeared to say something else in the fan’s direction while being pulled away by his teammates.
The exchange with Brunson wasn’t the only fan incident to take place during the fourth quarter. The NBA announced Thursday that it issued lifetime bans from all of its arenas to two individuals, one of whom ran onto the court to take a photo with Victor Wembanyama.
The fan who entered the court is a juvenile who isn’t believed to be from San Antonio, a source at the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office told the San Antonio Express-News’ Tom Orsborn and Nancy M. Preyor-Johnson.
Brunson led all scorers with 30 points in his Finals debut, shooting 12-of-31 from the floor while adding three rebounds and two assists. He retreated to the locker room with two minutes left in the first quarter after Spurs forward Harrison Barnes fell on his right leg following a collision with Landry Shamet. However, Brunson checked back in at the 8:03 mark of the second quarter.
