Report: San Francisco to host 2026 Super Bowl

NFL owners are expected to award Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers, the 2026 Super Bowl at next week’s league meetings, according to Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal.

The league’s owners will converge in Minneapolis from May 22-24 for this year’s spring meetings.

The 2026 Super Bowl will be the 60th championship game of the modern era.

Levi’s Stadium opened in 2014 and hosted Super Bowl 50 in 2016 when the Denver Broncos downed the Carolina Panthers.

Even if it’s not in 2026, the 49ers are confident they’ll host a Super Bowl soon.

“My optimism is very high,” 49ers CEO Jed York said recently, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “I feel fairly confident. I don’t know for sure that we’re going to get Super Bowl LX, but I feel very confident that we’re going to get a Super Bowl in the near future.”

Branch added that the team requested to borrow $120 million from the NFL stadium fund in March to improve premium seating and scoreboards.

Levi’s Stadium is also set to host 2026 FIFA World Cup games.

The stadium has a seating capacity of 68,500 but can expand to approximately 75,000. The NFL requires Super Bowl hosts to have at least 70,000 seats.

Las Vegas (2024) and New Orleans (2025) will host the next two Super Bowls.
