Ric Flair posted a detailed statement on social media Thursday defending his daughter Charlotte Flair’s current WWE direction after his podcast appearance sparked controversy in wrestling circles.
The WWE Hall of Famer appeared on Ariel Helwani’s podcast Wednesday, where he apparently made comments about Charlotte’s wrestling career that didn’t sit well with fans and industry observers. The Nature Boy quickly moved to clarify his position.
“I want to make something very clear to everyone after yesterday’s podcast with Ariel Helwani,” Flair wrote on X. “Number one – I’m more than thrilled to see Charlotte wrestling with her friend Alexa Bliss. I’ve never seen her happier! So let’s clear that up!”
Flair’s statement addressed what seems to be criticism about Charlotte’s current tag team run with Alexa Bliss in WWE. The wrestling legend made it clear that his daughter’s happiness comes first, and he’s fully supportive of her current partnership.
However, Flair also acknowledged his personal preference for seeing Charlotte compete in singles matches. “I enjoyed her in singles matches because I feel like she is able to put more of her talent on display,” he explained.
Charlotte Flair has been one of WWE’s top female wrestlers for years, holding multiple championships and headlining major events. She’s currently working as part of a tag team with former champion Alexa Bliss, a pairing that has drawn mixed reactions from wrestling fans.
Flair didn’t stop at defending his daughter’s career choices. He issued a stern warning to anyone thinking about criticizing his family members. “No one will ever criticize or make any attempt to judge my daughters or say anything about them,” he wrote.
The 16-time world champion also used the opportunity to address what he sees as broader issues within the wrestling community. Flair called for reporters to verify their stories before publication, writing: “Please don’t report something on me unless it’s 100% true.”
Perhaps most notably, Flair ended his statement with a plea for unity in professional wrestling. “I wish we could all just put everything behind us,” he wrote. “May we all continue to be successful, and for so many of us as we grow older, there may be no tomorrow. May peace and friendship be with us all.”
The wrestling icon concluded with a call to return to better times: “Let’s go back to being the brotherhood that we were. That was so sacred at one time!”
Flair’s message resonated with wrestling fans, earning over 2,700 likes and more than 130 retweets within hours of posting. The response suggests many in the wrestling community appreciate his call for unity during what has been a period of public disputes and controversies in the industry.
The statement comes at a time when professional wrestling has seen various public feuds and disagreements between personalities, both on-screen and behind the scenes. Flair’s appeal for a return to “brotherhood” reflects concerns that the industry has become too divided.
Charlotte Flair has not publicly responded to her father’s statement, but she continues to appear regularly on WWE programming alongside Alexa Bliss. The tag team has been featured prominently in recent weeks as WWE builds storylines for upcoming events.
Flair’s protective stance toward his daughter isn’t surprising given their close relationship and Charlotte’s high profile in WWE. As one of wrestling’s most recognizable names, any comments about her career direction tend to generate significant discussion among fans and media.
The veteran wrestler’s call for accuracy in reporting also highlights ongoing tensions between wrestling personalities and media coverage. His request that stories be “100% true” before publication suggests frustration with how his podcast comments were interpreted or reported.
For now, it appears Charlotte Flair will continue her tag team partnership with Alexa Bliss, with her father’s full support and blessing.
