Daniel Weyman can’t shake the character of Gandalf from his mind. That’s because ever since the British actor burst onto the scene as The Stranger in Prime Video’s mega-hit, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the buzz has been building that the character could very well be Gandalf himself, who was played by the venerable Ian McKellen in The Lord of the Rings films.
In a recent interview with MovieWeb about the highly anticipated second season of the series, which debuts on August 29, Weyman was candid about the possibility he could, in fact, be playing Gandalf, noting:
“I’m really enjoying playing this character from almost his birth in Middle-earth.
I feel like it doesn’t really matter to me [if he’s Gandalf]. I don’t think I’m trying to hang out for him to go one way or the other
. I love the way that the writing lands me as an actor in a present situation, with a lot of high stakes around, often with Markella [Kavenagh’s] and Meghan [Richards’] characters, Nori and Poppy. That’s just a pure joy to play.”
“I’m really thankful that we got to work together in Season 2,” Weyman quickly added of his two costars, Kavenagh and Richards. “It’s been one of the most pleasurable things in my career.” It wasn’t all roses and rainbows for Weyman, though. The actor known for Masters of the Air , Foyle’s War, and Dunkirk says the upcoming second season is downright intense, abnd the pressure was on:
I sort of feel panic. There was a lot of heat for us in the second season.

New Journeys and Epic Battles Fuel Season 2
Season 2 of Rings of Power, set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, spins many creative plates. Daniel Weyman’s The Stranger, in fact, embarks on an epic journey with Harfoots Nori and Poppy into faraway desert regions. It’s here in the Stoor Canyon where they meet a new race, which showrunner Patrick McKay confirmed is connected to the Hobbits.
Meanwhile, other headturning events revolve around Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel and Charlie Vickers’ ominous Sauron, who reportedly sets his sights on deceiving and manipulating the mastersmith Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards). Elsewhere, the regal dwarven kingdom of Khazad-dûm falls into darkness, and mighty elf-soldier Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) desperately tries to unravel a mystery that will forever alter the trajectory of his life. All that and an epic siege of Eregion are sure to turn heads.
