Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame will now induct Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan with Oasis

The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has now amended its roster to clarify that it will be inducting Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan with Oasis.

It was recently announced that the iconic Britpop band are set to enter the Rock Hall at an event in Los Angeles this November. They were nominated for the third time earlier this year, following two previous nods in 2024 and 2025.

However fans soon noticed that on the induction roster from the Hall Of Fame, co-founder and original bassist Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan was not listed as a member.

The bassist performed and recorded as part of the line-up between 1991 to 1999 and appeared on their iconic albums ‘Definitely Maybe’ (1994), ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ (1995), and ‘Be Here Now’ (1997).

After an outcry from some fans online, the roster has now been updated to include Guigsy as an inductee.

It isn’t yet clear why he wasn’t included in the first place, nor has it been confirmed if the change on the site comes from pressure from fans. It also seems unlikely that the founding member will attend the ceremony later this year, as he has seemingly taken a step back from music since reportedly quitting the Manchester band by fax (as per The Guardian) and has since co-written a book about England player Robin Friday, The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw in the time since (via Consequence).

One past member who was named in the initial induction post was drummer Tony McCarroll, who helped form the band and went on to play throughout the debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’.

He also played on singles ‘Whatever’ and ‘Some Might Say’ before his departure in 1995 – where he was sacked from the band and later sued them for royalties.

Last year, he opened up about the incident which he believes led to his sacking – describing it as “probably the most stupid thing I’ve ever done in my life” – before then sharing a message to the band ahead of their massive ‘Live ‘25’ reunion tour.

“The circle has started again, lads,” he said. “A new generation ready to start a journey of listening… Actually, I’m a bit jealous of that blank canvas they’re about to start on.”

Oasis are a part of a record-breaking six British acts being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame this year, also including Joy Division and New Order (listed as a single nominee), Billy Idol, Phil Collins and Sade. They appear in the ‘Performer’ category alongside Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan and more.

The announcement came following Liam Gallagher reacting to Oasis’ 2024 Rock Hall nomination by saying it was “full of BUMBACLARTS” and discouraging fans from voting for them at the time.

He then reiterated his sentiments last year, saying the Hall Of Fame was “for WANKERS”.

After finding out they were being inducted in 2026, the frontman suggested that he’d manifest it by bringing some “reverse psychology vibes”, and also shared that his mother has told him to “stop being a dick” and attend the ceremony later this year.

The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s 2026 induction ceremony is due to take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday November 14. A recording will then air in December on ABC and Disney+.
