The Apple TV+ series Pachinko is currently filming season 2 in Canada, leaving viewers anticipating its air date.

According to The Hamilton Spectator, filming for Season 2 of the Apple TV+ historical drama Pachinko has begun in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The location was chosen primarily due to Hamilton, Ontario’s distinct architectural styles and scenic surroundings. In addition, the city’s historic structures and urban settings promise to make for a stunning backdrop for the era setting of the series.

Pachinko, which recounts the epic multi-generational tale of a Korean family residing in Japan, is based on author Min Jin Lee’s best-selling novel of the same name. When Pachinko’s first season debuted on Apple TV+ in March 2022, critics and viewers praised its breathtaking visuals, heartfelt storytelling, and excellent acting from its diverse ensemble. Viewers can expect to see the follow-up to a Korean family’s journey through the complicated and frequently turbulent political and social environment of 20th-century Japan continued in the second season. And as in season one, a group of renowned directors and producers oversee the series’ production at Apple Studios. An equally impressive array of talent can be found in the Pachinko season 2 cast, including Oscar-winning actress Youn Yuh-Jung, Hallyu star Lee Min-Ho and actress and singer Kim Min-Ha. Justin Chon, the latter of whom is best known for his highly acclaimed films Gook and Ms. Purple, is directing the television series.

Pachinko, the TV series adaptation of the best-selling book, recently won a stunning victory at this week’s 2023 Spirit Awards. The series, starring Youn Yuh-Jung and directed by Justin Chon and Kogonada, earned Best Ensemble Cast In a New Scripted Series.

Actor Noh-Sang-hHun, who played Baek Isak in Pachinko, was in person to accept the award. After his speech thanking the Film Independent Spirit Awards, a video was shown of the cast filming in Canada, wherein they also thanked the committee.

Pachinko, which chronicles a Korean family’s trials and tribulations in 20th-century Japan, has received acclaim for its soul-stirring depiction of immigration, prejudice, culture, and identity. Given that the majority of the cast and staff are of Asian heritage, the series’ success at the Spirit Awards represents a significant turning point for Asian representation in Hollywood.

The Bear, Abbot Elementary, and other noteworthy movies and television programs were honored at the Spirit Awards, but Everything Everywhere All at Once was unquestionably the night’s biggest winner. The film is anticipated to cause a stir at the upcoming Academy Awards due to its widespread critical acclaim and financial success.

Overall, this year’s Spirit Awards honored the power storytelling has to evoke empathy and understanding while showcasing a wide variety of talent.
