‘Severance’ leads with 27 nods, as ‘The Penguin,’ ‘The Studio’ and ‘The White Lotus’ follow closely behind

Nominations for the 2025 Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday, and Severance led the way with 27 nods, followed by The Penguin with 24 and The Studio and The White Lotus with 23 apiece in the competition for television’s best shows and performances from the past year.

The dystopian workplace drama from Apple TV+ received nominations in all but one drama category (Guest Actor) for its second season, with Adam Scott and Britt Lower earning nominations for their lead roles.

Apple TV’s breakout The Studio received the most nominations in the comedy category, including three for Seth Rogen, who wrote, directed and starred in the Hollywood satire.

“We never thought this would happen,” Rogen and co-creator Evan Goldberg said in a statement. “What do we even say? Uh… thanks to our parents, our agents, our publicists, our preschool teachers, our managers, The Television Academy, our assistants, and Apple? Or do you only say that stuff if you win? Oh no! We’re already blowing it.”

HBO’s The Penguin grabbed the most nods for Limited or Anthology Series, including lead acting nominations for Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti.

Mike White’s ensemble dramedy The White Lotus was the only other show to receive more than 20 nominations.

In the battle for late-night supremacy, Comedy Central’sThe Daily Show, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on CBS were each nominated in the talk series category. NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was shut out.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and stream live on Paramount+. The show will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze.
