Quarterback Josh Allen told media Monday that he feels “extremely confident” head coach Sean McDermott is the right man to get the Buffalo Bills over their playoff hump.
The Bills’ season ended at the hands of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, a familiar sight for the franchise. Buffalo has suffered postseason defeats to Kansas City in four of the last five campaigns.
Allen defended McDermott despite the Bills failing to exorcise their playoff demons, refusing to point the finger at his sideline boss for the team’s shortcomings.
“I’m just so proud of coach,” Allen said. “I don’t know why he’s not recognized more in the awards stuff. That’s the cruddy thing about it. But time in and time out, he’s got us in position.
“We’re fighting to get over that hump, and he gives his life to this. … He’s so committed to doing whatever it takes.”
Allen threw for 237 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in the Bills’ 32-29 loss Sunday. He had a chance to tie the game late, but his fourth-down heave was dropped by tight end Dalton Kincaid.
McDermott has compiled an 86-45 regular-season record since becoming Buffalo’s head coach in 2017 but owns a 7-7 postseason mark.
