Arrest warrant issued for Bengals’ Mixon for aggravated menacing

An arrest warrant has been issued for Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon on a count of aggravated menacing, according to a police affidavit obtained by Local 12’s Cassy Arsenault.

Mixon, 26, pointed a firearm at a female victim and said, “You should be popped in the face,” and, “The police can’t get me,” per the affidavit.

The incident reportedly occurred in Cincinnati on Jan. 21 before the Bengals’ wild-card round matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

“The club is aware misdemeanor charges have been raised against Joe Mixon,” the Bengals said in a statement, according to ESPN’s Ben Baby. “The club is investigating the situation and will not comment further at this time.”

Peter Schaffer, Mixon’s agent, said the charges will be dropped Friday.

“It was a rush to judgment,” Schaffer told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. “They’re dropping the charges first thing in the morning. I really feel that police have an obligation before they file charges – because of the damage that can be done to the person’s reputation – to do their work. They should be held to a higher standard. Because I don’t play with people’s lives.”

Aggravated menacing is considered a first-degree misdemeanor according to Ohio penal code.

Mixon was charged in 2014 after punching a female student in the face and sending her to the hospital. The Oklahoma product accepted a plea deal that included one-year probation and 100 hours of community service. He wasn’t invited to the NFL Scouting Combine due to the incident.

Cincinnati selected Mixon with the 48th overall pick in 2017. He was initially considered a first-round talent before concerns arose regarding his character.

This season was Mixon’s sixth in the NFL.
