Dodgers release Bauer, who’s eligible to sign for league minimum

The Los Angeles Dodgers released right-hander Trevor Bauer, the club announced Thursday.

Bauer is now a free agent and can sign with any club for a league minimum of $720,000.

Los Angeles had until 11 a.m. PT on Friday to trade Bauer after he was designated for assignment on Jan. 6 with $22.5 million remaining on his contract. However, the team wasn’t able to facilitate a deal.

The 31-year-old is eligible to pitch in the majors again on Opening Day if another club signs him. In late December, an independent arbitrator reduced his record 324-game suspension for violating MLB’s joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy to 194 contests.

Bauer will still be docked pay for 50 games in 2023.

The 2020 NL Cy Young winner started 17 contests for the Dodgers after signing a three-year, $102-million contract before the 2021 campaign. He landed on the restricted list on July 2, 2021, after the league opened its investigation and was officially banned on April 29, 2022.
