Three key Cleveland Browns left Sunday’s 29-12 loss to the Denver Broncos with injuries.
Edge rusher Myles Garrett – this season’s front-runner for Defensive Player of the Year – suffered a shoulder injury and was seen wearing a sling after the contest.
Garrett said postgame that he heard a pop in his left shoulder, according to Scott Petrak of The Chronicle-Telegram. He’s expected to have an MRI on Monday.
“I’ve played through things that should’ve sidelined me before,” added Garrett, who entered Week 12 with an NFL-high 13 sacks. “And I’m going to continue to fight and do what’s best for the team and for myself. … Nothing like this is going to hold us back or me back.”
Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson also left the contest in the second half due to a concussion, while top receiver Amari Cooper exited with a rib injury.
Thompson-Robinson sustained the injury in the third quarter after taking a hard hit from linebacker Baron Browning, who was called for roughing the passer on the play. P.J. Walker entered the game at QB with Cleveland trailing 17-12. Thompson-Robinson spent time in the medical tent before walking to the locker room early in the fourth quarter to be evaluated for a head injury.
Cooper sustained his injury in the fourth quarter and was also ruled out minutes later. The four-time Pro Bowler – who leads Cleveland in catches, receiving yards, and touchdown receptions this season – caught two passes for 16 yards before exiting versus Denver. He injured his ribs after taking a hit from defensive back P.J. Locke.
X-rays on Cooper’s ribs were negative, head coach Kevin Stefanski said postgame, according to ESPN’s Jake Trotter.
Injuries at quarterback have been an issue for the Browns, who recently lost Deshaun Watson to a season-ending shoulder ailment. The Broncos matchup was Thompson-Robinson’s second consecutive start. He completed 14 of 29 attempts for 134 yards and one touchdown on Sunday before exiting.
Walker went 6-for-13 with 56 yards in his relief appearance.
Cleveland recently signed Joe Flacco, but the former Super Bowl MVP is on the practice squad and was inactive in Week 12.
