Ohio State head coach Ryan Day couldn’t believe it when the Buckeyes dropped Saturday’s rivalry matchup against Michigan.
“I was in shock after the game,” Day said Wednesday, per Rivals’ Brock Heilig. “I never expected that to happen.”
Ohio State outgained Michigan 252 yards to 235 and tallied 16 first downs to the Wolverines’ 13. However, Will Howard’s two interceptions and a pair of missed field goals proved too much for Ohio State to overcome in the 13-10 loss.
Michigan had its own issues, including a pair of interceptions, but dominated time of possession and scored the game-winning points with under a minute remaining.
The result marks the Wolverines’ fourth consecutive win in “The Game.” Prior to Michigan’s hot streak, Ohio State had won eight straight times in the rivalry matchup.
The upset loss also dropped the Buckeyes to 10-2, kept them out of the Big Ten title game, and pushed them from No. 2 to No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
