The Kansas City Chiefs are locking up another key member of their dynasty.
Kansas City agreed to terms on a contract extension that’ll make Creed Humphrey the NFL’s highest-paid center, sources told NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
The new deal is worth $72 million over four years and includes $50 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Humphrey was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract. The 2021 second-round pick’s new average annual salary of $18 million tops the center position by a significant margin, according to Spotrac. Frank Ragnow of the Detroit Lions ($13.5 million) ranks second on that list.
Humphrey is now the sixth-highest-paid interior offensive lineman in the league. Philadelphia Eagles guard Landon Dickerson tops that category with a $21-million average annual salary.
The 25-year-old Humphrey has been one of football’s most reliable blockers, having started every game over the past three seasons while being a key member of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning teams with quarterback Patrick Mahomes under center. The two-time Pro Bowler earned a second-team All-Pro berth in 2022.
With Humphrey, Joe Thuney, and Trey Smith, Kansas City rosters arguably the best group of interior linemen in the NFL. The Chiefs – who signed tight end Travis Kelce and defensive lineman Chris Jones to extensions this past offseason – enter the 2024 season looking to become the first team ever to claim a Super Bowl three-peat.
