The Miami Dolphins inquired about the availability of Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs and were informed that he wasn’t available, sources told The Athletic’s Vic Tafur.
Jacobs is currently not with the Raiders. He can’t participate with the team because he hasn’t signed the franchise tag that was placed on him earlier in the offseason.
Miami has been linked to other high-profile running backs this offseason, including current Indianapolis Colts runner Jonathan Taylor, who was reportedly made available for trade earlier this week, and Dalvin Cook, who signed with the New York Jets after being released by the Minnesota Vikings.
The Dolphins’ running back room currently includes Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, third-round rookie De’Von Achane, and Myles Gaskin, among others.
Mostert led the Dolphins’ rushing attack last year with 891 yards and three touchdowns on 181 carries.
Jacobs, 25, is fresh off a stellar 2022 campaign that saw him lead the league in rushing yards (1,653) and yards from scrimmage (2,053). His efforts earned him his second Pro Bowl nod and first career first-team All-Pro selection.
The 5-foot-10, 220-pound back will earn just over $10 million if he signs his franchise tag tender. He can’t sign a long-term deal this offseason now that the July 17 deadline has passed, but he can agree to a supplemented one-year deal with the Raiders or another team should he be traded.
