Former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is set to visit the New York Jets this weekend, sources told NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
The Jets will be the second team to host the free-agent signal-caller. The New Orleans Saints brought Carr in for a visit earlier in February prior to his official release from the Raiders.
Las Vegas released Carr on Thursday before $40 million of future earnings would become guaranteed. He spent nine seasons as the Raiders’ starting quarterback, but the franchise benched him for the final two games of the 2022 season.
The Raiders initially hoped to trade Carr, who owned a no-trade clause, but the quarterback reportedly informed them he wouldn’t accept a trade after visiting the Saints.
The Jets have been looking for stability at quarterback due to Zach Wilson’s struggles over his first two seasons. New York benched Wilson, the No. 2 selection in the 2021 draft, multiple times in 2022. He threw for 15 touchdowns to 18 interceptions across 22 career starts.
Fellow quarterbacks Mike White, Joe Flacco, Josh Johnson, and Chris Streveler all saw action for New York over the past two seasons.
Carr threw for 217 touchdowns to 99 interceptions over his career. The four-time Pro Bowler completed 60.8% of his passes for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions last season. However, he only posted a 6-9 record as the Raiders finished third in the AFC West.
In addition to the Jets and Saints, the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans are also reportedly expected to pursue Carr.
