The Sacramento Kings acquired six-time All-Star forward DeMar DeRozan via sign-and-trade as part of a three-team deal with the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
DeRozan will reportedly sign a three-year, $74-million contract to join the Kings.
Sacramento is reportedly sending veteran forward Harrison Barnes and an unprotected 2031 pick swap to the Spurs, while the Bulls receive wing Chris Duarte, two second-round picks, and cash.
DeRozan arrived in Sacramento on Saturday to meet with team officials and coach Mike Brown. Shortly after the news dropped, the veteran forward made an appearance at the Kings’ arena as it hosted a California Classic Summer League contest. He sat courtside next to franchise owner Vivek Ranadive.
DeRozan averaged 24 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 79 games last season with Chicago. He was first in minutes played (2,989) and finished second in Clutch Player of the Year voting. Over three seasons with the franchise, he was named an All-Star twice and made the All-NBA second team in 2022. DeRozan previously spent time with the Spurs and Toronto Raptors.
The Kings add a quality scorer alongside De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis to a team that missed the playoffs one year after snapping a 16-season drought. Sacramento finished the regular season 46-36 but lost to the New Orleans Pelicans in the play-in tournament.
Barnes played five-and-a-half seasons with the Kings, averaging 14.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. The 32-year-old joins a Spurs team that reportedly added Chris Paul alongside reigning Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama. Barnes also contributed to the Golden State Warriors’ championship in 2015.
The Bulls avoid taking on long-term salary in acquiring Duarte, who has one year remaining on his deal. The 27-year-old averaged 3.9 points in 59 games with Sacramento last campaign.
