The Seattle Seahawks are signing former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Darnold’s deal is for three years and $100.5 million with $55 million guaranteed, Schefter adds. The 27-year-old was one of the top quarterbacks available in free agency.
Geno Smith rejected a similar contract offer from the Seahawks before the veteran signal-caller was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third-round pick Friday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports.
The Seahawks were the favorites to land Darnold, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Sunday. The Vikings previously declined to franchise tag Darnold and will likely start second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy under center barring a major addition.
Darnold will reunite with new Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak after the two spent 2023 together with the San Francisco 49ers.
The Vikings signed Darnold to a one-year, $10-million deal ahead of the 2024 campaign. He enjoyed a career-best season, throwing for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Minnesota finished 14-3 in the regular season but was eliminated from the playoffs by the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC wild-card game.
