Houston Astros right-hander Justin Verlander recorded strikeout No. 3,372 of his career Friday against the Oakland Athletics to pass Hall of Famer Greg Maddux for 10th on the all-time list.
Verlander struck out Abraham Toro in the second inning to accomplish the feat.
The 41-year-old finished with nine strikeouts versus the Athletics to give him 3,377. He also only allowed one earned run on eight hits over six innings to earn the 260th win of his career in the 6-3 victory.
Verlander has a chance to move up even further as he has a 2025 vesting option if he pitches over 140 innings this season. The three-time Cy Young winner is currently in his 19th season in the majors.
Walter Johnson (3509) is ninth on the list, Gaylord Perry (3534) is eighth, and Don Sutton (3574) is seventh.
