An anime series that has only increased in popularity between seasons is Solo Leveling, based on the Manhwa (Korean comic) of the same name. The action-packed show recently wrapped up its second season, and it has had plenty of fans clamoring for more. Aside from the impressive source material the show is based on, the gorgeous animation from production company A-1 Pictures has elevated Solo Leveling to new heights. Now, in an exclusive report from Deadline, Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini has provided a minor update on when fans can expect the third season to come out.
When discussing the success of the anime streaming service Crunchyroll and its vast library of titles, Deadline specifically highlighted Solo Leveling and its massive popularity. Not only was the anime one of the most popular series on the service in 2024, but it was also Crunchyroll’s top series at the start of 2025, when the second season premiered. When asked if Season 3 of Solo Leveling would happen anytime soon, Purini answered simply with “We hope so.” Ultimately, it all depends on the animation studios’ production schedules that bring the anime to life.

Purini would expand on his answer, saying, “The [series] creators want to work on a lot of shows. This is typical for animation studios, especially those that produce multiple anime adaptations, which can sometimes lead to longer waits between seasons.
‘Solo Leveling’ Appeals to Both Anime & Gaming Fans

Solo Leveling follows the character Sung Jinwoo, a weak hunter in a dungeon-crawling world where battles with monsters are commonplace. A near-death experience in a dungeon soon leads Jinwoo to discover a way to “level up solo,” and become one of the strongest hunters in the world all on his own, changing his life forever. The anime takes inspiration and narrative structure from all sorts of role-play games (RPGs), something that Purini believes has contributed to the series’ success, saying:
“The most important thing is the theme of the story. It has a lot of themes from gaming. If you are an RPG player or play first-person-shooting games, you understand it. When people see those themes in a narrative story format like this, it is new, and it is different, and it is a language they speak, and that makes it much more compelling.”
Overall, Solo Leveling is an incredibly unique anime, with several distinct elements, including a stunning production value, working in tandem to create a new pop culture phenomenon. While the wait between seasons might be longer than expected, fans of the series (or anime in general) will know that it’s worth the wait.
