Taylor Swift announced an original song for Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 this week, and the backstory is genuinely sweet.
The song is called “I Knew It, I Knew You,” and it arrives June 5th – two weeks before Toy Story 5 opens in theaters on June 19th. Fans can pre-order it right now, exclusively through Taylor’s official website.
Swift shared the news on Instagram with a photo by photographer Beth Garrabrant. Her caption opened with “It’s a Toy Story” and went on to explain how this all came together.
The personal history is the heart of the story. Swift has been a Toy Story fan her whole life. “I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,” she wrote in the post.
Disney and Pixar invited her to an early screening of the film. She loved it right away. The song followed shortly after. “I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages,” Swift wrote. “I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?”
That kind of instant creative spark is practically Taylor’s whole brand. The title “I Knew It, I Knew You” fits that energy perfectly.
Toy Story 5 is one of the most anticipated films of summer 2026. The franchise has been a cultural institution since the original in 1995. Toy Story 4 came out in 2019, making this new installment a long-awaited return.
Having Swift’s name on the soundtrack is a significant addition. It arrives two full weeks before the film opens. That’s plenty of time for it to become a hit before anyone buys a ticket.
The announcement picked up close to 5.9 million likes on Instagram. That’s a big number even by Swift’s standards. It’s a sign this news spread well beyond her core fanbase.
Taylor’s film work goes back a few years. She voiced Audrey in The Lorax in 2012 and appeared in Amsterdam in 2022. She also directed her own Eras Tour concert film. But writing an original song for a franchise she’s loved since she was five years old is a different kind of milestone. That’s a long time coming.
“I Knew It, I Knew You” drops June 5th, 2026. Toy Story 5 opens June 19th. Pre-orders are live now on Taylor Swift‘s official website.
