Ted Lasso Likely to End with Season 3, Brett Goldstein Says

Ted Lasso has been a pretty big hit for Apple TV+, but fans shouldn’t expect for the series to last longer than three seasons. As it stands, two seasons of the series have arrived on Apple TV+, each with great success. A third season has been ordered and is currently in production, and there’s a good chance that this will also end up becoming the final season of the series.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, series star and writer Brett Goldstein spoke about the future of Ted Lasso. Goldstein says that the series was designed with a three-season plan and that the cast and crew are working on season 3 with the assumption that it will be the last season. This doesn’t mean that Apple TV+ has canceled the series, but that there are no plans at this time to make any additional seasons.

“We are writing it like that. It was planned as three. Spoiler alert — everyone dies.”

Goldstein would be happy with the series ending after three seasons, as that was the plan from the start and it would allow for the cast and crew to complete Ted Lasso however they see fit. With that said, the final nail has not been put into the proverbial coffin just yet. Goldstein admits that he doesn’t quite know what happens after season 3 is finished, meaning that a fourth season could happen, even if that’s not the plan as of now.

“The story that I know is the one that I wanted to tell, and so that’s the one we’re telling with the help of numerous people in front of and behind the camera, so it’s by no means me typing every key stroke and saying every word. It’s nowhere near like that. But the story that’s being told – that three-season arc – is one that I see, know, and understood. I’m glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don’t know.”

Ted Lasso Has Been a Huge Hit for Apple TV+

Apple TV+

Ted Lasso was created by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly. It follows a college football coach (Sudeikis) who’s hired to coach an English soccer team and takes to the job in his own aloof way. The show has been met with widespread praise and great accolades, with its first season earning 20 Primetime Emmy Award nominations. That’s the most nominations for a first season of any comedy in Emmy history.

Sudeikis and Goldstein both won acting Emmy Awards for their performances, as did co-star Hannah Waddingham. The series also won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Ted Lasso is certainly among the most popular titles offered on Apple TV+, but with all of this success in mind, it’s possible that more money will be offered to make a fourth season. Time will tell.
