Ted Lasso Tops IMDb’s List of Most Anticipated Returning TV Shows in 2022

Apple TV+’s hit comedy, Ted Lasso, is the most anticipated returning TV show in 2022, according to IMDb. The list is based on traffic to title pages based on the IMDb audience. Ted Lasso comes ahead of popular shows such as The Boys, Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and The Mandalorian.

Ted Lasso stars Jason Sudeikis as an overly-optimistic American football coach who takes a job as the head coach of an English football (soccer, for the Americans) team. Sudeikis is joined by an excellent comedic cast that includes Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, and Jeremy Swift.

The series quickly became a fan favorite, not just because of its hilarious script and overwhelming positivity, but also for the way the series addresses serious issues like mental health. Fans are eagerly waiting to see Season 3 to see where AFC Richmond goes, but also to see what happens to Nick Mohammed’s character after his villainous turn.

Season 2 of the series did tremendously well with critics as well and garnered 20 Emmy nominations, winning 7 including Outstanding Lead Actor for Sudeikis and Outstanding Comedy series. While Ted Lasso has seen tremendous success, it is surprising to see it at the top of this list over other highly-anticipated returning shows.

One of these includes Stranger Things which lands at number 7 on this list. Season 4 is set to release in 2022 and it will be almost 3 years since the last season debuted on Netflix. Stranger Things is one of Netflix’s most popular shows and the low place on this list could just be due to the long waiting period. Hype will surely build as we get closer to the season and we find out more.

In addition, The Mandalorian may just be the most popular show on this list but it isn’t the most anticipated as it sits at number 5 on the list. After season 2, there isn’t a lot known about where this series will go and there is still a long wait before season 3 debuts. However, Star Wars fans still have plenty of content on Disney+ to look forward to including Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett which premieres on Dec. 29.

The rest of this list includes The Boys, The Crown, Rick & Morty, Shadow and Bone, American Horror Story, Bridgerton, and Peaky Blinders, which will premiere its sixth and final season. There is plenty of great television to look forward to in 2022 and fans are looking forward to new adventures with many of their favorite characters.
