Aaron Paul Names ‘Best Friend’ Bryan Cranston as Godfather of New Baby Boy

Aaron Paul recently welcomed a second child with wife Lauren, and a certain Breaking Bad co-star has been named as the godfather.

AMC

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul is officially a father again. Appearing on The Tonight Show on Tuesday night, Paul revealed to host Jimmy Fallon and all of his viewers that the actor and his wife Lauren had just welcomed their second baby together, a boy named Ryden. The couple, who married in 2013, also have a 4-year-old daughter, Story Annabelle, who Paul says is “madly in love” with her younger sibling.

The announcement was not a surprise to Paul’s Breaking Bad co-star, Bryan Cranston, who has already visited Ryden in person. In fact, Paul says Cranston is Ryden’s godfather as well. After joking that Cranston initially turned down the offer to be Ryden’s godfather, Paul clarifies that the Heisenberg actor is actually “very excited” about the opportunity. As Paul explains:

“No, he’s very excited, very honored. I love the man to death. He’s one of my best friends in the world, and, so yeah, it was just a no-brainer.”

Paul and Cranston first hit it off when the two were cast as co-stars in the hit AMC drama series Breaking Bad, which ran from 2008 to 2013. In the show, Paul plays Jesse Pinkman, a former student of Cranston’s Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who turns to cooking meth to pay his cancer treatment costs. Partly due to the two actors’ chemistry, the show took off, ultimately becoming one of the most acclaimed television series of all time. They later reunited for the Netflix movie spinoff El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.

Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston Will Reunite in Better Call Saul

Sony Pictures Television

Fans will get to see Jesse Pinkman and Walter White sharing the screen for what will likely be the very last time in the sixth and final season of Better Call Saul. The two have not yet shown up in the Breaking Bad spinoff series, although many of their other former co-stars have in past seasons. It was confirmed ahead of season 6’s premiere that Jesse and Walt will appear at some point in the last season of Saul, and Paul recently told us in an exclusive interview with MovieWeb that he was stoked to finally be able to discuss his return.

“First of all, I am so happy that I can finally talk about it. It’s just like, Breaking Bad and shows like that and Better Call Saul are all shrouded in secrecy and mystery. So I’m happy to finally talk about it. To be honest, I’m a little shocked that I can talk about it. I thought that the plan was to sort of unveil it when the episodes aired, but here we are… That world is such a beautiful world. I feel so blessed to be a part of the sort of Breaking Bad, now Better Call Saul, universe.”

Better Call Saul airs new episodes of its sixth and final season every Monday night on AMC and AMC+. It’s unclear when Paul and Cranston will appear.
