Amazon’s The Wheel of Time Comic-Con@Home Panel Unveils First Poster and Release Month

With the recent success of fantasy novel adaptations, Amazon is banking on their newest effort The Wheel of Time to draw in big numbers. The show was announced years ago, but there has been little in terms of promotion for the series which has been confirmed to debut in late 2021. However, at a San Diego Comic-Con panel, showrunner Rafe Judkins debuted the first official poster as well as release month for the series. Source.

The first poster for the Amazon Prime series features one of the pivotal characters Moiraine (portrayed by Golden Globe-winning actress Rosamund Pike) standing in front of Waygate (a very important piece of “architecture” in the novels). At the bottom of the poster, it reveals that the series will premiere in November 2021, although no official date was provided. It will likely be late November/Thanksgiving if I were to take a guess. There are also some other subtle Easter eggs in the poster, including Moiraine’s blue robe and ring and possibly the One Power floating through the bottom left corner. For fans of The Wheel of Time novels, the poster is a gorgeous spectacle that bodes well for the upcoming series.

The Wheel of Time is based on the late Robert Jordan’s best-selling novel seriesof the same name. It is a sprawling fantasy epic that covers fourteen main books – as well as a few prequels. The series follows a core group of young adults as they are thrust into a world of magic and danger. They are guided by a mysterious sorceress Moiraine, who may or may not be trusted.

The first season of The Wheel of Time will reportedly cover the first two books The Eye of the World and The Great Hunt, but could potentially cover more. The Wheel of Time has already been renewed for a Season 2, and has actually already begun filming, despite not having even released a trailer for Season 1. We will keep you updated on any new developments.

On the SDCC panel, Judkins discussed the casting process specifically with Rosamund Pike. He said, “The first time I got on the phone with Rosamund, I could just tell from the way that she spoke about the character of Moiraine that when she read that first script, that it just hit her that she understood this woman. And when I talked to her, I knew that she was the only option for this character, because she understood Moiraine kind of in her bones, in a really fundamental way. That’s the foundation of this whole show, and this whole show working, is that you believe the characters that are there. And Rosamund is the best foundation that this show could ever hope for.” High praise, and certainly well-warranted for one of the best actresses today. These words should only excite The Wheel of Time fans even more as they await the first Season.

The Wheel of Time will star Rosumund Pike as Moiraine, Josha Stradowski as Rand, Daniel Henney as Al’Lan, Marcus Rutherfort as Perrin, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve, Barney Harris as Mat, and Madeleine Madden as Egwene. The series will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in November 2021. No news yet on whether it will release all episodes at once or release weekly like recent Amazon projects.
