Animaniacs Season 2 Trailer Promises Zanier Adventures & Insanier Pop Culture References

Hulu recently released the official trailer for the second season of Animaniacs, which returns for zany new episodes starting Friday, November 5th, 2021. According to the official Hulu synopsis, Yakko (Rob Paulsen), Wakko (Jess Harnell), and Dot (Tress MacNeille) will return for another run with “big laughs and the occasional epic takedown of authority figures in serious need of an ego check.” The Animaniacs season two official trailer is full of pop culture parodies like Gladiator and Thundercats, and it’s clear that the new season of the Emmy award-winning series will be “packed with enough comedy sketches, pop culture parodies, musical comedy, and self-referential antics to fill a water tower.”

First airing in 1993, Animaniacs was originally created for Fox Broadcasting Company’s Fox Kids block, before moving to The WB in 1995. When the series ended in 1998, a total of 99 episodes had aired on television, and there was a feature-length film Animaniacs: Wakko’s Wish released in 1999. During the original show’s run, Animaniacs became the second-most popular children’s show in two age categories, ages 2-11 and ages 6-11, right behind Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and in November 1993, its rating almost doubled the ratings of rival cartoons like Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop.

The Hulu revival of the beloved 1993 cartoon was first announced at the beginning of 2018. Since then, due to the success of the revival, Hulu has already announced a third season is on the way to be produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Animation. Driving the revival of Animaniacs is the original show’s surge in popularity after it was made available on Netflix in 2016, as well as the many, many successful examples of television projects reviving interest in older shows, such as Fuller House.

The second season trailer opens with eponymous Animaniacs telling viewers that the advertisement has been recommended to them because of their unique search history. It then begins an onslaught of bizarre yet funny scenes showing the Warner sibs on a series of different adventures, beginning in Ancient Rome, a scene completed by Dot’s Gladiator impression and a joke about laser pointers that will make any cat-lover fall out of their seats. Next, the teaser jumps to a clip of the sibs trying to flee the Biblical flooding of Noah’s ark (which makes sense the Warner siblings are a triplet, not a doublet), followed by a medieval court, an International beauty pageant in space, the Warner Bros. studio backlot, and of course, their home inside the Warner Bros. water tower.

Pinky and the Brain are also returning with their continued efforts to take over the world… and space! The new trailer confirms that Pinky (Paulsen) and the Brain (Maurice LaMarche) will be continuing on in their never-ending quest to take over the world! Season two also promises the return of Starbox, who is voiced by The Penguins of Madagascar star Danny Jacobs, and Cindy, who is voiced by Eleanor Johnson, the niece of the show’s director Katie Rice.

If I got to actually finish making this thing, I felt super strongly that the voice of Cindy should be a real kid. I had my niece Eleanor record temporary dialogue, some of which was scripted, but was mostly just her being herself, which is a funny and goofy little person.

The new season of Animaniacs will feature 13 all new episodes. Season two drops on November 5th. Animaniacs Season 3 has already been ordered. So there is even more to come.
