Betty White Remembered by Hot in Cleveland Co-Stars

Tributes and memorials for Betty White have been pouring in rapidly ever since the news of her death broke, showing just how universally beloved the comedy legend really is. Among those paying tribute are the stars of Hot in Cleveland who spent several years working with White on the hit sitcom. Taking to Twitter, Wendie Malick posted an image that perfectly described White which said, “Stay close to people who feel like sunshine.”

“It was an honor and a joy to spend six years with the brilliant and beautiful Betty,” Malick also said in a statement, per ET. “Couldn’t have asked for a better role model, and a more generous friend.”

Valerie Bertinelli posted a photo of herself alongside White from happier times. She says in the caption: “Rest In Peace, sweet Betty. My God, how bright heaven must be right now.”

“That there is gratitude in everything, absolutely everything. I used to think, ‘Well, I’m grateful because I had a good day today. I’m going to be grateful for that,'” Bertinelli also said in an interview with People shortly before White’s death. “And that’s, ‘Look at me being all grateful for a good day. No. Gratitude is about everything. Gratitude is about finding the goodness in a challenging day.”

She added: “Betty just oozes gratitude and she glows. I’ve never met another human being that glows. She’s just, she’s not of this world. And we are all blessed to have her here. That giggle that she had. And when you were the one that got that giggle out of her, I mean, Jane Leeves and I were always trying to make Betty laugh.”

Jane Leeves is not currently active on social media and hasn’t publicly addressed White’s passing, though she did also recently speak with People about the late comedy legend’s upcoming 100th birthday. Leeves said, “Working opposite her, the best part is the giggling. She’s a giggler, and that’s sort of the best part of your day is when you can actually make Betty laugh. That’s kind of easy sometimes I have to say.”

“You know, I always say if you had to send a representative of the human race to a new planet to introduce to aliens, you’d send Betty,” Leeves noted. “Because she’s just such a great human being, as well as being a talented actress. She’s kind, she’s funny, she’s sexy, she’s accepting. She is forward-thinking. She cares about the planet deeply, and she cares about every living thing deeply.”

Created by Suzanne Martin, Hot in Cleveland starred Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, and Betty White. It follows three show business veterans from Los Angeles relocating to Cleveland where they lease a home run by sassy caretaker Elka. It was TV Land’s highest-rated series and ran for six seasons from 2010-2015.

As White’s agent Jeff Witjas said upon the news of her passing, it came as a shock because so many of us thought she’d live forever. One thing that’s certain is she will always be missed, loved, and remembered. Rest in peace, Betty White. If you want to revisit Hot in Cleveland, the comedy series can be found streaming on Paramount+.
