Bob Odenkirk Can’t Wait for Fans to See Better Call Saul’s Final Season: ‘It’s Amazing’

We’ll soon be saying goodbye to Saul Goodman, but it’s all good, man, as Bob Odenkirk says Better Call Saul will have an “amazing” finale. There are a lot of questions that fans have heading into the final season, with the series providing answers to what will happen in two separate timelines. The final episodes will finish bridging the gap to the Breaking Bad timeline and reveal what ultimately becomes of Jimmy McGill, who’s been recognized living under his new identity as Gene Takavic in Omaha.

In a new interview with Empire, Odenkirk spoke out some more on working on the Breaking Bad spinoff’s final season. For his part, the actor just wanted to stay healthy and do as great of a job as possible with his performance, crediting the Better Call Saul team for the ending they came up with. Filming has since wrapped on the finale and Odenkirk seems confident that the fans will be satisfied with the ending, even if it’s bittersweet.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I’m just trying not to get Covid, and show up and do a fucking great job with this awesome show, and this amazing ending, this powerful, surprising, subtle, kind of low-key piece that’s been written with the greatest integrity by [co-creator] Peter Gould and the team of writers.”

Bob Odenkirk Likes Jimmy McGill, But Not Saul Goodman

AMC

Because Odenkirk has been playing this character since Breaking Bad, it’s been impossible for him not to get invested. Odenkirk admits he has become fond of Jimmy McGill, even if he’d rather stay away from her person Jimmy pretends to be under the Saul Goodman alias. The actor also details the struggles in taking on these two personas, but ultimately, it’s all going to come together in a way that Odenkirk is excited for the longtime fans to see.

“I mean, people ask me if I like Saul Goodman. The answer is no. I like Jimmy McGill. Saul Goodman is the kind of person I would avoid, pretty much at all costs, for a million reasons. Not the least is fashion sense. Keeping those two people in the same body, and having them matter and connect up, can be a challenge for the writers and for me, but it’s been a great, great effort to try to make it work. I can’t wait for people to see this final season. There’s so many different places it goes, and there’s so much happening. It’s amazing.”

The final season of Better Call Saul will also provide answers as to what happens with Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton), and Nacho Varga (Michael Mando). The series also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Jonathan Banks, and Patrick Fabian. The series has been known to bring in major characters from Breaking Bad for special appearances, though Bryan Cranton and Aaron Paul have not yet appeared as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. There’s a good chance there will be some kind of cameo in the final season.

Better Call Saul will premiere its sixth and final season on AMC on April 18, 2022.
