Breaking Bad’s Walter White Among Most-Wanted Characters for MultiVersus

Heisenberg’s story may have come to an end with the conclusion of Breaking Bad on television, but perhaps we’ll see Walter White’s return in video game form if many fans get their way. Released earlier this year on PC and consoles, the crossover fighting game MultiVersus brings together various heroes and villains from the Warner Bros. Discovery catalog. From Batman and Bugs Bunny to Gizmo and the Scooby-Doo gang, players can pick from the most random of characters to duke it out in brawls that most people never imagined they would actually see.

People like LeBron James as seen in Space Jam: A New Legacy and the titular duo from Rick and Morty getting added to MultiVersus has fans of the game wondering who might be coming next. Online, there has been a movement from gamers who love Breaking Bad that want Bryan Cranston’s Walter White to become a playable character. Fan-made artwork of Walter in the game has been floating around on social media as continued requests for the expert meth cook to be added are still coming in.

In fact, per GameRant, it has been determined that Walter White is the second-most requested character for MultiVersus. He is behind only Ben Tennyson of Ben 10, while those following him are Yakko, Wakko, and Dot of Animaniacs, Mordecai and Rigby of Regular Show, and Gumball of The Amazing World of Gumball. It’s worth noting that Walter White is the only character who’s not animated that comes up high on the list.

The biggest problem in bringing in Walter White is that he is a part of the Breaking Bad IP, and that is not owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, but by Sony. That doesn’t make his inclusion impossible, but it does make it less likely given the rights issues that would need to first be sorted before Heisenberg can duke it out with Shaggy, Harley Quinn, and Tom & Jerry. If there’s enough of a demand for the character, then there’s always a chance that the investment will be made to make the inclusion happen.

There was a short-lived Breaking Bad mobile game dubbed Breaking Bad: Criminal Elements, but the hit show was never given a proper video game adaptation. At one point, series creator Vince Gilligan was interested in turning Breaking Bad into a video game reminiscent of the Grand Theft Auto series. Given how much investment goes into making video games, however, those plans never really materialized.

“We did (have video game discussions) early on,” Gilligan said on the Inside the Gilliverse podcast. “I’m not much of a video game player, but how can you not know of Grand Theft Auto? I remember saying… ‘Who owns Grand Theft Auto? Can’t you have a module? Can there be a Breaking Bad (game)?’ It still makes sense to me. That never came to fruition.”

With MultiVersus fans keeping their fingers crossed, maybe we’ll soon see Heisenberg popping up in that game instead.
