Camp Cretaceous Unleashes the Spinosaurus in First Look at Season 4

When the Spinosaurus took out a T-Rex in Jurassic Park III, fans were not best pleased and the prehistoric beast immediately became one of the most infamous dinosaurs in the franchise. Now it looks like Spiney is coming back in the fourth season of animated Jurassic World spin-off series, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which will premiere on December 4th, as a new image from the show has been released teasing that the kids will be running for their lives in a new location this time around.

The animated series tells the story of a ground of teenagers who enroll to Camp Cretaceous, and are on the island when things start to go wrong with the Indominus Rex. The first seasons primarily took place during the events of Jurassic World, running the new story parallel with the storyline of the film. While this has allowed many Easter eggs to be hidden in the series, what is more intriguing is word from Jurassic World: Dominion’s director that the series will also connect to the third movie in the Jurassic World trilogy.

While the Spinosaurus has not been seen so far in the Jurassic World movies, other than a cheeky reference in the finale of the first film when the T-Rex smashes through its skeleton on the way to battle the Indominus Rex, so this will be the first time a live Spinosaurus has featured in the franchise since Jurassic World III. The new image shows that this one is very much alive as it chases the group across a dusty planeand we can’t wait to see it make its Jurassic World debut this December. What is also of note in the image is that the kids seem to have acquired a bunch of drones and a robotic dog since we last saw them, so there is still a lot to be revealed about this new season.

Of course the mention that this series will link to Jurassic World: Dominion gets even more theories whirling around our heads, as many of the featured dinosaurs in the animated show have also appeared in some context in the main movie series, so does that mean we will be seeing the Spinosaurus return in Dominion? There are already a number of dinosaurs that fans want to see make a return in the franchise when Dominion arrives next summer, such as the Dilophosaurus, which other than its iconic role in Jurassic Park has been massively underused in the franchise to date.

With the additional hints that this season of Camp Cretaceous features new environments and technology that has not been seen in the series so far, we can only wait and see how all of this fits in with the overall Jurassic World storyline, which has been pretty well incorporated in the first three seasons. We are likely to see a trailer coming sometime soon, as Netflix has a habit of dropping them about two weeks before a premiere, which may shed some more light on the season’s storyline, and of course, sometime in the future, we will finally get that long-awaited Jurassic World: Dominion trailer, which may or may not give us a live-action return of the Spinosaurus.
