Dexter Morgan Gets a New Name in Revival Teaser Clip

The Dexter revival will find the charming serial killer walking a different path, with a different name, in Showtime’s upcoming ten-episode revival. Thanks to a brief new clip from the new series, we now know that the man formerly known as Dexter Morgan now goes by Jim Lindsay and, rather than put his expertise as a blood spatter analyst to good use, he now works at Fred’s Fish & Game as a sales associate.

Dexter Morgan changing his name and profession does not come as too much of a surprise, with the avenging killer going into a self-imposed exile at the end of the show’s original run. However, it will comfort fans to know that he has ditched the isolated lumberjack gig, something which was met with much criticism when the season eight finale aired back in 2013. Watching the disturbed and disturbing character navigate his way around a retail environment should also provide the revival with some humorous encounters.

The name is not the only thing set to change for the Dexter return, with the character having moved away from Miami and now living alone in upstate New York. The series will also introduce a new villain for Dexter to contend with in the form of Clancy Brown as Kurt Caldwell, the unofficial mayor of the small town of Iron Lake. Powerful, generous, loved by everyone – he’s a true man of the people, but should you never make the mistake of crossing Kurt, or hurting anyone that he cares for, or he will make you pay.

Jamie Chung (Lovecraft Country) recently offered some further insight into the series’ return saying, “The original series happened over 10 years ago. So, there’s certainly a different vibe of the way the actual show is shot in terms of the aesthetic. I do think it’s a little darker. It takes place in upstate New York and as we know from the last season, Dexter’s hiding,” she said, before hinting that the new series could feature some friendly faces from Dexter’s past. “So, it certainly carries on and you have a lot of fresh faces, but a lot of familiar ones. I think it will certainly satisfy everyone’s appetite. Especially if you’re a big Dexter fan.”

Michael C. Hall will of course return as the title character, with the actor recently revealing why he feels now is the right time to resurrect Dexter.”It’s a conversation that’s been ongoing, and different possibilities have emerged over the years,” Hal said. “I think in this case, the story that’s being told is worth telling in a way that other proposals didn’t, and I think enough time has passed where it’s become intriguing in a way that it wasn’t before.”

Making up the rest of the Dexter supporting cast of newcomers are Julia Jones (Goliath, The Mandalorian), David Magidoff (The Morning Show) and Alano Miller (Jane the Virgin). Production on the Dexter revival began back in February 2021. The 10-episode limited series will also see Clyde Phillips returning as showrunner and has scheduled a Fall 2021 premiere date.
