A recent post from Dexter star Jennifer Carpenter may have confirmed the return of Debra Morgan in the upcoming revival of Showtime’s serial killer series. While nothing has been confirmed, the image shows the actress on the set of a new project, and the timing certainly checks out, with the Dexter revival currently filming in Massachusetts.
Many are also convinced that the crew member also shown in the image is wearing a Dexter lanyard, with Jennifer Carpenter sporting a wardrobe that looks very similar to that worn by Debra throughout the original run of the show, as she had a well-known affinity for striped shirts. Could Carpenter simply happen to be portraying a completely different character in a completely different show who also likes to wear striped garments? No. Don’t be so ridiculous.

Late last year, Showtime announced that Dexter would return for a 10-episode limited series, with original showrunner, Clyde Phillips, back at the helm. Michal C. Hall will reprise the title role, and is set to be joined by a host of new characters, including Clancy Brown as the central villain Kurt Caldwell. Kurt has been described as “the unofficial mayor of the small town of Iron Lake. He’s realized the American dream by going from driving big rigs, just like his father did, to now owning several trucks and the local truck stop. Powerful, generous, loved by everyone – he’s a true man of the people. If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you.” Sounds like just the man to make Dexter’slong-awaited comeback worthwhile.
Jamie Chung (Lovecraft Country), Julia Jones (Goliath, The Mandalorian), and Alano Miller (Jane the Virgin) have also joined the series and will provide Halls’ Dexter Morgan with all manner of drama and, no doubt, people to kill. Jones is set to play Angela Bishop, the town’s first Native American Chief of Police, with Believe star Johnny Sequoyah also on board as Angela’s brash and opinionated teenage daughter.
Dexter has become infamous for its disappointing finale, which saw Dexter abandon his family to live in self-imposed exile, growing out a scruffy beard and living life as a solitary lumberjack. The episode also saw Jennifer Carpenter’s Debra Morgan die, which raises questions as to how exactly she might return for the revival. While he has confirmed nothing about Debra’s comeback, even insisting that they are “not undoing anything,” showrunner Clyde Phillips has said that “there is some flexibility to do some movie magic.” Besides, this would hardly be the first time that Dexter has had lengthy conversations with someone known to be deceased.
While it was believed that the upcoming revival would be the final outing for the loveable killer, actor Michael C. Hall recently teased further adventures for the character following the new episodes saying, “I’m reluctant to say ‘definitely’, you know?” when asked whether this would truly be the end. “What’s plain now is that there’s 10 new episodes,” he concluded.
Dexter has not yet set a premiere date but is expected to debut later this year. This comes to us from Jennifer Carpenter’s Instagram.
