All is not looking too euphoric for those waiting for the return of Euphoria, as the ongoing WGA strike could delay production of the HBO Max series’ third season. During an interview at Cannes for Variety and Kering’s Women in Motion talks, producer Jeremy O. Harris (best known as the playwright for the Tony-nominated Slave Play), called on Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav to do his part in ending the ongoing strike. This, of course, would ensure that Euphoria goes into production this year as scheduled. Harris also noted that Euphoria creator Sam Levinson would not cross picket lines.
“All I’ll say is Sam Levinson is not a scab. He’s not a scab. David Zaslav, make a deal. That’s what I’ll say about Season 3 of ‘Euphoria.’ Make a deal, David. It’s easy. Just come to that table,” Harris said.
During the Women in Motion talk, Harris also praised the efforts of Euphoria’s talented female cast.

“Sydney [Sweeney] is such a special young person. Same with Maude [Apatow]. The ways in which these young women show up and are the hardest working people you’ve ever met in your life, it teaches me how to work better. They are very much about their craft. That’s so inspiring.” Harris added: “You can’t talk about ‘Euphoria’ without talking about the ways in Zendaya is such a leader there. You see her and Sam sitting together and going through every scene in the script. She asks questions not only as a lead actress but also as a producer. What I learn every time I go to that set is that I can’t stop working really hard. I can’t rely on my charms or the way people perceive me.”
Season two of Euphoria concluded over a year ago, so audiences have been waiting for the story to continue. Several hit series, including Abbott Elementary, Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, and Yellow Jackets, have also been been impacted by the strike.

What Can We Expect in Season Three of Euphoria?

Although Euphoria has received its share of controversy due to its portrayal of teenage sexuality, drug use, and some behind-the-scenes issues, the series is critically acclaimed and has earned 25 Emmy nominations through two seasons. Among its nine wins, Zendaya has won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series award twice.
Although the WGA strike could potentially delay the release of the anticipated third season, there is some knowledge about what viewers may see when Rue, Cassie, Maddy and the rest of the crew return. In an interview with Vogue last month, Euphoria’s costume designer, Heidi Bivens, said there had been talks about a possible time jump that would see the high schoolers navigating early adulthood.
“I’ll do everything I can to make the third season of the show successful. I’m really excited to read the scripts. There is talk of it being approximately five years in the future, and that they’re not in high school anymore. Dorothy’s not in Kansas anymore. I mean, it might be a total trip. Who can say? But knowing Sam’s brain, it’s gonna be exciting, and he will challenge all of us, because he won’t want to repeat himself. It’ll be something new for the audience to discover,” Bivens told Vogue.
Additionally, the third season of Euphoria is expected to mark Zendaya’s directorial debut.
