Evil Gets Renewed for Season 3 at Paramount+

Good news, Evil fans. Paramount+ has renewed the popular horror series for season 3. This comes not long after the show was moved to the streaming service from CBS for its second season. Streaming has suited the show well, it would seem, as the renewal comes as only three episodes of the current 13-episode season have been released. But the results from those few episodes alone were enough for the company to give the go-ahead for another round of spooky adventures.

Evil season 2 has already been a solid draw for Paramount+. Viewership is said to have grown week-to-week since the show made the move to the streaming service. Given that Paramount+ launched this year in the hopes of competing with the likes of Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max and others in the streaming game, hits with a devoted audience are more important than ever. While CBS didn’t get enough juice out of the squeeze, this series appears to be thriving in the streaming world.

Evil is a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The show centers on a skeptical female psychologist who joins a priest-in-training, as well as a carpenter. Together, they investigate the church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries. This includes alleged miracles, demonic possessions and hauntings. They are tasked with assessing whether or not there is a logical explanation, or if something truly supernatural is at work.

The cast includes Katja Herbers (Westworld), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Aasif Mandvi (Million Dollar Arm), Michael Emerson (Person of Interest), Christine Lahti (Chicago Hope), Kurt Fuller (Wayne’s World), Brooklyn Shuck (Rise), Skylar Gray (Now is Everything), Maddy Crocco and Dalya Knapp. The second season brings evil closer to home. In Evil season 2, Kristen is struggling with her darker nature, while David suffers temptation as he gets closer to his ordination. At the same time, Ben is visited by night terrors that prey on his greatest fears.

Evil became one of the best-reviewed new shows around during its first season. The series currently carries a 92 percent overall critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it failed to deliver the ratings necessary for CBS to justify keeping it around on traditional TV. When season 1 arrived on Netflix, it quickly became a streaming hit, which helped make the move to Paramount+ possible. It’s a case where some things simply need time, or the right home, to find an audience.

Robert King, Michelle King, Liz Glotzer, Rockne S. O’Bannon and Nelson McCormick serve as executive producers. Recently, the Kings signed a five-year overall production deal with CBS Studios, having had major success with shows like Evil and The Good Fight. The husband and wife duo produce the show through their King Size Productions banner. Evil returns with new episodes Sundays on Paramount+. There is no word yet on when we can expect to see season 3 debut but we’ll be sure to keep you posted as further details are made available. This news was previously reported by Deadline.
