It’s been three years, but Fargo will finally release its highly-anticipated fifth season, which will seemingly pay a fun tribute to the Christmas classic Home Alone. The acclaimed FX Network series is based on the equally praised 1996 film by the Coen brothers and has become one of the most ambitious television shows in recent years, constantly seeking new stories, characters and ways to surprise audiences. And it seems that, once again, it has succeeded.

Changing the setting, the plot and the protagonists from one season to another, the fifth installment premieres on November 21, a little before Christmas, so it is not a surprise that it pays tribute to one of the greatest holiday classics of the most wonderful time of the year.

The full-length trailer for the new episodes finds Juno Temple’s character doing her best to face a criminal who’s breaking into her house in a similar style to how Kevin Mac Allister defeated the burgling duo Harry Lyme and Marv Murchins, aka “The Wet Bandits” in the first Home Alone. Check out the trailer for Fargo season five below:

Joining Temple, who plays Dorothy “Dot” Lyon, are Jon Hamm as Sheriff Roy Tillman, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Lorraine Lyon, Joe Keery as Gator Tillman, Lamorne Morris as Deputy Witt Farr, Richa Moorjani as Deputy Indira Olmstead, David Rysdahl as Wayne Lyon, Sam Spruell as Ole Munch, Jessica Pohly as Agent Meyer, Nick Gomez as Agent Joaquin, and Dave Foley as Danish Graves.

What’s the Fifth Season of Fargo About?

FX

The anthology series has been characterized by changing drastically from one season to the next, and the fifth will be no exception. The first installment was set in 2006, and begins with the arrival of a man with a dark past to the town of Bemidji, Minnesota, and a series of murders that coincide with his arrival. Season two takes place in 1979 in Luverne, Minnesota, where a couple must cover up the murder of the son of a North Dakota crime lord.

In the third season, set in 2010, a couple joins together to steal a valuable object but end up having to cover up an even bigger crime due to their poor criminal skills. Season four meanwhile took viewers back to 1950, focusing on two mafia families’ fight for control of Kansas City.

This latest season takes place in Minnesota and North Dakota in the year 2019. The story focuses on Dorothy, Temple’s character, who appears to be a housewife like any other. However, she hides a dark secret and a tumultuous past that eventually catches up with her when she has a problem with the authorities in Scandia, Minnesota. Hamm’s character, Sheriff Roy Tillman, has been searching for Dorothy for a long time, and when he discovers her whereabouts, he will begin a hunt where they are both the prey and the hunter.

Most of the new episodes have been written by series creator Noah Hawley. Joining him as writers are Bob DeLaurentis, April Shih, and Thomas Bezucha.

Fargo season five releases on November 21st on FX Networks.
