A few weeks after Halle Berry left Ryan Murphy‘s newest legal drama, All’s Fair, the actor has spoken out about her sudden exit from the project. She was set to star alongside an exciting ensemble cast led by Kim Kardashian and Glenn Close. Berry was also set to executive produce the series, but now she’s no longer attached to the project in any way, reportedly due to a scheduling conflict.
During a red carpet event for her latest film, The Union, an Entertainment Tonight reporter asked Berry about her exit from Murphy’s series. She seemed ok with the outcome, having this to say:
“You know, things happen for a reason. [But] I would have loved to have been there with those ladies, and I know it’s gonna be great. [It’s] Ryan Murphy! I mean, you know, duh. But next time!”
Murphy’s inaugural Hulu project after his Netflix contract ended is now led exclusively by Kardashian and Close. The show will also feature performances by some of Murphy’s regulars: Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash, Teyana Taylor, and Naomi Watts are just some of the performers who will also have a prominent role. Details are scarce, but apparently, the show will tell the story of a divorce lawyer who struggles in Los Angeles’ courtrooms alongside other attorneys at an all-female law firm.
All’s Fair is the latest project by Murphy, who now enters the legal drama territory after going through genres like horror, comedy, drama, and even true crime. The show is set to be the beginning of Murphy’s new relationship with Hulu (aka Disney), and the anticipation is already palpable following Murphy’s recent series starring Kim Kardashian, American Horror Story: Delicate.
Halle Berry Stars in One of Netflix’s Latest Hits
Halle Berry’s involvement in All’s Fair would have represented her return to the TV medium after she participated in the sci-fi show The Expanse years ago. However, the actor is currently back on the small screen with a full-length film instead of a series.
The Union, Netflix’s latest comedy thriller, stars Berry alongside Mark Wahlberg and is already climbing to the top of Netflix’s global charts despite a poor reception by critics (36% in the Tomatometer Score and 25% in the Audience Score).
The Union follows a construction worker named Mike McKenna (Wahlberg), who has an encounter with his high school sweetheart named Roxane Hall (Berry) after decades have passed. What Mike doesn’t know is that he’s being recruited to go on a mission with Roxanne, who’s revealed to be an international spy working for a secret organization.
The film was directed by Julian Farino (Entourage), and Berry and Wahlberg are joined by Mike Colter, Jackie Earle Haley, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alice Lee, and J. K. Simmons.
All’s Fair
is set to start production in 2024.
