HBO Will Focus On Writing The Last of Us, Euphoria & The White Lotus Instead of New Content

Summary

  • HBO is prioritizing the writing of the second season of The Last of Us and the third seasons of Euphoria and The White Lotus after the end of the writer’s strike.
  • House of the Dragon has already finished filming its second season and plans to return in the summer of 2024.
  • Other companies like Netflix are prioritizing the next seasons of Wednesday and Stranger Things, their most-watched shows.

Now that the writer’s strike is over after the WGA and AMPTP have reached an agreement, HBO begins the race to finish the scripts for the next seasons of its most successful series as soon as possible, including the smash hit video game adaptation, The Last of Us. While House of the Dragon was able to continue filming despite the strikes, other extremely popular shows had to stop their production. The most notable were The Last of Us, The White Lotus and Euphoria, which attract most of the network’s audience along with the Game of Thrones spinoff and Succession, which came to an end earlier this year.

Therefore, it is not a surprise that now that the conflict between the writers and the big studios has come to an end, HBO wants those series to be the first to return to the screen. Variety confirms that writing for the second season of The Last of Us, and the third installments of Euphoria and The White Lotus will be a top priority for the company. Additionally, the outlet revealed that House of the Dragon has already finished filming its second season and plans its return for the summer of 2024, respecting the original plan.

Other companies like Netflix have also established their own priorities, putting the next seasons of Wednesday and Stranger Things on top, which is also not a surprise since they are the most watched shows on the streaming platform.

What to Expect from the Upcoming Seasons of The Last of Us, Euphoria & The White Lotus

HBO

In the finale of the second season of Euphoria, the ties were tested after Lexi’s play exposed the conflicts that the group of young protagonists are going through. But the one who was really in trouble was Rue, who managed to escape from Laurie but still owes her money, and the dealer has already made it clear to her that terrible things can happen if she doesn’t pay. Others who did not have a good time at the end of the last season were Fez and Ash, since the police entered their house, and while the character played by the late Angus Cloud is arrested, the audience does not know for sure if Ash has died or not. This means that the third season of the show has many answers to give, but knowing Sam Levinson’s, a lot of new questions will appear.

The Last of Us is a little more predictable, since the second installment will adapt the second game in the franchise. The story will take place some time after Joel rescued Ellie from the Fireflies, with both living in his brother’s community. However, tragedy will not take long to appear, and Ellie will live her own journey, while another major character from the world of The Last of Us will be introduced: Abby, the daughter of the doctor that Joel killed in the second season finale.

After taking the audience to the paradisiacal hotel in Hawaii and exploring the streets of Sicily, the third season of The White Lotus will likely be set in another luxury hotel from the famous chain, this time in Asia. Beyond that, no details have been revealed about the next installment, which will also introduce a new group of protagonists.
