Fans are preparing to say farewell to Bob Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman this summer, but perhaps the series finale of Better Call Saul won’t be the very last we will see of the conniving attorney. As it stands, the sixth and final season will bring an end to the story of Saul Goodman, aka Jimmy McGill, after the character was first introduced in Breaking Bad. There are no plans at this time for the franchise to expand with any other shows, and this could be the end of the Breaking Bad franchise as we know it.
There’s always the possibility that a new film could revisit the characters from both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. When Breaking Bad ended in 2013, fans thought for years that the story was over, only for Netflix to bring back Aaron Paul for the Jesse-centric spinoff film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie in 2019. Potentially, something similar could happen with Saul, even if there are no plans at this time for that to happen.

In any case, the possibility was presented to Odenkirk in a recent interview with Extra. The actor admits that he’s really struggling to say goodbye to Saul Goodman and the Better Call Saul family, joking that he’ll probably be asking the creators to give him more to do with the role by next year. When asked directly if he’d be up for a return in a spinoff movie, Odenkirk made it clear he most definitely would. As Odenkirk put it:
“I can’t say goodbye. It’s too much! It’s heartbreaking. I love them so much. A year from now, I’m going to be banging on Vince Gilligan’s door going, ‘Come on!’ … Oh yeah, [I’d return for a movie]. I love playing this guy. It’s a great joy. There’s never been a part that’s [as] well-written [as this], so I would love to do it again. Look, there are going to be new horizons and new characters to play, but this will be the apex of my acting career. It’s okay. I’m lucky to get this.”

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul’s Creators Are Taking a Break From This Universe
AMC
We know to never say never when it comes to the future of the Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul universe, given that El Camino was a complete surprise. Be that as it may, there are no immediate plans to do anything else with any of these characters or even any more stories set in that world. As of now, Saul creators Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan say that they are focusing on separate projects, though both admit they’re open to revisiting the franchise at some point down the line.
“Maybe someday, but personally I’m going to take a little break from that world and try something else, just to prove that I can,” Gould told Deadline.
“I think that’s my answer too, there are stories left to tell, but it’s not proving something to the world, it’s about proving something to yourself,” Gilligan added, noting he has another project up his sleeve.
Better Call Saul will premiere season 6 on April 18 on AMC.
