Academy Award nominee and Marvel star Jeremy Renner has opened up about the snowplow that neatly ended his life one year ago. Appearing on CNN’s New Year’s Eve special, Renner, who is best known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown, said that he had “so many things to fight for.”

“I’m just so blessed that I had so many things to live for. I have a giant family. I have a 10-year-old daughter. I would have disappointed and really messed up a lot of people’s lives if I would’ve passed. So, there’s a lot for me to get better for. I’m also a pretty stubborn S.O.B., and there’s a lot for me to have to fight for.”

“Recovery was just a one-way road in my mind, and recovery became a relief for me because I know I could give relief to my family, my daughter, to all those that I really affected. Like my poor nephew, who was there with me on that day, I gave him images he can never unsee. But I know that my healing would be healing for him, and with that, I never thought about my own physical ailments, or my own pain, or my own anguish. I had so many things to fight for. The one-way road to recovery was my mental attitude, and that was to get better. There was no option other than that.”

Renner has also today released a new single in the wake of his accident. Titled Wait you can check out the video below.

Jeremy Renner did not have a happy New Year back in January 2023, when the Hawkeye star was almost killed in an accident involving a snowplow. However, after charting his recovery to his fans via social media, Renner has recently revealed one of the things that helped him through his ordeal; a musical album of songs written during the months he spent recovering. The actor has since hinted that this is something that he would love to share with the world.

The circumstances surrounding Renner’s near-death experience we revealed in the weeks following the accident. From police reports and the actor’s own account of what occurred, it was reported that while helping to clear snow in his neighborhood, the emergency brake on the plow Renner was driving failed and almost hit his nephew. In order to prevent this outcome, Renner threw himself in to save him and ended up being crushed by the plow himself.

Posting on his Instagram account, Renner shared his endeavor and his hopes to be able to share it one day. He wrote:

“A collection of music we wrote about different milestones in my journey of recovery since Jan 1st this year. “Love and Titanium” has been painful, deeply healing, and ultimately cathartic for me to create. I hope I get the courage to share with you all.”

Although the injuries suffered by Renner back in January were pretty horrific, it could have been much worse for the Mayor of Kingstown star. He is well aware of the fact too. Speaking to CNN in September, Renner addressed his recovery, which is now almost at an end after many months, and how the incident reshaped his view on life. He said:

“I’m very, very clear. My life is really lean, if that makes sense. There’s no fat in my life anymore. I don’t have time for that. So, there’s something really beautiful about having that superpower. I was really clear about how I want to spend my time, and who I want to spend my time with. This to me feels like family, sort of lifestyle things we talk about all the time. And then we have the spirit itself, it’s much more the shared experience. And that to me is where I want to spend my time.”

Although he is still in pain, the actor noted that dealing with that has been a mental process he has come to accept and master over the last several months. He said:

“It’s all a mental game. I put it in my back pocket now. I know how to deal with pain. It’s all mind. It’s all in the mind. If you can sift through the fog of it all, I am very blessed.”

While it may still be some time before Renner is back on the big screen, fans can see his previous appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his own reality TV show Rennervations on Disney+. Two seasons of Mayor of Kingstown can be found on Paramount+, with a third season now in development.
