The Tony Awards aired on CBS on Sunday night and the ceremony has drawn some criticism from John Stamos over snubbing his late Full House co-star, Bob Saget. Ahead of the ceremony making it to air, Stamos had already been informed that Saget would not be included in the show’s In Memoriam segment. This did not sit well with Stamos, who took to Twitter to voice his disappointment over Saget’s exclusion, feeling that his stage work qualified the actor for the honor.
“Disappointed to hear that Bob Saget will be LEFT OUT of the In Memoriam segment tonight,” Stamos tweeted. “Bob was brilliant in The Drowsy Chaperone & Hand to God. Come on [Broadway League] and [American Theater Wing]! Do the right thing! Bob loved Broadway and I know the community loved him.”

Frustrated about the Saget snub but still showing respect to everyone else involved, Stamos added, “Let’s make some noise about this everyone – and send our love and good wishes to the hosts Ariana DeBose, Julianne Hough and my buddy Darren Criss and all the well-deserved nominees.”
Saget did appear in the Broadway rendition of The Drowsy Chaperone during its 2006-2007 run before he had a role in the 2015 stage play Hand to God. The Tony Awards tribute did not include Saget for this work, featuring other names we’ve lost over the past year including William Hurt, Sidney Poitier, and Stephen Sondheim. Similarly, Saget was not included in the In Memoriam segment at the Oscars, although he had appeared in several feature films, which also prompted an outcry from fans.

Bob Saget Was Honored at the Critics’ Choice Awards

Saget may have been snubbed by the Tonys, but he was given recognition at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday night. Per People, Saget’s widow, Kelly Rizzo, was present to accept a Critics’ Choice Impact Award on behalf of her late husband. Stamos was also present at the event to help Rizzo honor Saget.
“It’s just so special to be here to honor him, but also still so weird and surreal at the fact that he’s not here,” Rizzo said. “This is the first red carpet I’ve done without him. It’s very strange. I feel like he’s waiting in the wings and he’ll be like, ‘Honey, I’ll be there in a few minutes.’ It still doesn’t feel right, but all we can do is our best and be here to celebrate him and his legacy. That’s all I want to do.”
Saget is clearly still missed by many. To help with the mourning process, Stamos teamed up with many of Saget’s other friends to record a tribute special for the comedian. Dubbed Dirty Daddy: The Bob Saget Tribute, the special just recently premiered on Netflix.
