Julie and the Phantoms Fans Continue Their Fight to Save the Series

Fans of the short-lived Netflix series Julie and the Phantoms have not given up their campaign to save the show. Created by Dan Cross and David Hoge, the musical comedy-drama series, which is based on the Brazilian series Julie e os Fantasmas, debuted on Netflix in 2020. Fans had been hoping for news of a renewal, but in December, it was announced that Netflix had canceled Julie and the Phantoms, bringing it to an end after one nine-episode season.

By way of social media calls and popular petitions, Julie and the Phantoms fans quickly mobilized to save the show. Many fans have banded together to announce “The Orpheum Tour,” a collaborative effort to get the phrase “Save Julie and the Phantoms” on theater marquees around the world to help raise awareness for the campaign. It started in Sydney, Australia and has since stretched across four continents, shining brightly on theater marquees from Los Angeles to London and billboards from Manila to Allentown, Pennsylvania. Fans from the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Belgium have all gotten involved.

“Julie and the Phantoms has an incredible, diverse cast with a huge passionate fan base of all ages,” a message states on the official website, SaveJATP.com. “It was announced in December 2021 that Netflix would not be renewing the show for a second season, leaving fans devastated—but not defeated. In a campaign to show how loved this show is, Fantoms all over the world are asking Netflix decision-makers to change their minds, they’re re-watching season one to increase its number of hours streamed, and they’re getting attention across social media with sky-high messages calling on everyone to help save this gem of a show! Seeing the show’s name in lights on all corners of the globe has been just the inspiration fans need to continue igniting pleas to Netflix to keep this lovable ghost band alive.”

Fans have also been signing a very popular petition on Change.org to save Julie and the Phantoms. It continues to climb with new names getting added every day, and as of this writing, the total count has topped 174,000 signatures. Because Netflix ultimately reversed their decision to pass on giving Manifest a final season due to a popular fan campaign to save the show, perhaps Julie and the Phantoms fans realize they have a good shot of having their series getting renewed as well.

The petition’s author writes, “We want season 2 of Julie and the Phantoms. This show has brought so many people so much happiness and has inspired so many to follow their dreams. We all really want to see more of this amazing show, cast and crew.”

Julie and the Phantoms follows teenager Julie finding her passion for music and life while helping the Phantoms, a trio of ghostly guys, become the band they were never able to be. The show stars Madison Reyes, Charlie Gillespie, Owen Patrick Joyner, Jeremy Shada, Jadah Marie, Sacha Carlson, and Savannah May. The first, and currently only, season of Julie and the Phantoms is streaming on Netflix.
