“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.”
Created by Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and developed by Black and Eisner Award-winning comic book writer Matt Fraction, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters also stars Anna Sawai (Ninja Assassin), Kiersey Clemons (The Flash), Ren Watabe (461 Days of Bento), Mari Yamamoto (Kate), Anders Holm (Workaholics), Joe Tippett (Mare of Easttown), and Elisa Lasowski (Somers Town) alongside Kurt and Wyatt Russell, who will star as the same character, Lee Shaw, at different time periods.

Aside from the presence of Godzilla, audiences are excited to see the father and son duo portray the same character. Something that director Matt Shakman recently discussed.
“Certainly, we discussed two different actors. I think that’s the usual approach to things. But we had this idea that Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell, who are often, I think, offered things as father and son, but I don’t think they’d ever been offered the same part to play in two different time periods. It just felt like, ‘what an amazing idea,’ and it’s so rare. I mean, two actors who are extraordinary on their own, two actors who bear an uncanny resemblance to each other because they’re father and son playing the same part, just felt like an idea that we had to run wholeheartedly at, and they were excited to do it.”
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is the next chapter in the franchise and takes things to the small screen alongside the big screen outings Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), and the upcoming sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
On the big screen, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire follows up the explosive showdown of its predecessor, Godzilla vs. Kong, with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on November 17, 2023.
