LeVar Burton is nearly through with his week as the guest host if Jeopardy!, and his fans are now ready to see his hosting gig become permanent. Following the passing of longtime host Alex Trebek last year, Jeopardy! has been using a slew of guest hosts while producers discuss who might next take the podium on a full-time basis. From the start, Burton had been one name that many fans have been campaigning for and there was even a popular fan petition created to make it happen.
Now that several of Burton’s episodes have aired, his fans feel that it was just as wonderful as they were hoping for. One fan writes, “There’s just a comfort in his cadence and inflection that reminds me of sitting around the TV with my family. His energy is spot-on. He’s the one, Jeopardy!. @levarburton is the guy. That’s it.”

A common element many seem to appreciate is the way Burton seems to be genuinely excited for the contestants when they correctly answer difficult questions. On the YouTube account for Jeopardy!, various clips of Burton hosting the show have been added for anyone to watch. The comments sections of each video are filled with more Burton fans praising his performance and calling for him to stick around permanently. LeVar Burton is one of many temporary guest hosts for this season of Jeopardy! and it’s still unclear when a permanent host will be named. Other guest hosts have included Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper, Mayim Bialik, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Aaron Rodgers, Robin Roberts, and George Stephanopoulos. Burton has been perhaps the most vocal of them all about hoping to be hired as Alex Trebek’s successor, even going so far as to call the gig his potential dream job.
“I still want it. I still think I’m right for it. I have to figure that I’ve got a shot. For all of these guest hosts, it serves as our audition. It’s a great job!” Burton told USA Today after filming his episodes.
“I expect that I will handle it like any disappointments,” Burton added when asked how he’d handle not getting picked. “I’ll be disappointed, and I will move on with my life. That’s the nature of having an opportunity to mature in life is that your past experience informs the present, as well as your future. I am a firm believer in it’s not what happens to you in life that determines who you are, it’s what you do with what happens. So I know that whatever the outcome is, it’s the perfect outcome for me. I will be perfectly OK. I will embrace whatever that outcome is.”
