Lily Rabe Reacts to Kim Kardashian’s American Horror Story Casting

Franchise star Lily Rabe has weighed in on the surprise casting announcement of Kim Kardashian in the upcoming season of American Horror Story. Dubbed “Delicate,” the new season had a new teaser trailer released that officially unveiled the first two names featured in the cast. One of those names is Emma Roberts, a series mainstay who has been appearing in the series since its original season’s debut in 2013. She was last a part of the show in 2019 for the ninth season, dubbed American Horror Story: 1984.

Meanwhile, the teaser also reveals that the new season will bring in Kim Kardashian. This marks her debut in the franchise, as the reality television star is more known for appearing in her reality shows with limited acting experience. Though she has been doing more work recently with a guest hosting performance on Saturday Night Live that was actually pretty well received by viewers. Kardashian also provided voiceover work for 2021’s PAW Patrol: The Movie, and will return for this year’s sequel PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie.

Like Robert, Rabe is someone else who has frequently appeared on American Horror Story over the years. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Rabe reacted to the recent casting news. She first addressed if she may personally be coming back for the new season, but Rabe isn’t saying one way or the other if she’s a part of the cast.

“Oh, gosh. You know I couldn’t say a word if I [was]. You know I can’t say anything. [The smile on my face] means absolutely nothing!”

She can comment on the casting announcement that was released, however. Addressing Roberts and Kardashian starring in American Horror Story: Delicate, Rabe offered her support, feeling confident Kardashian would be “amazing” in the role, even if they haven’t met just yet.

“I don’t know Kim. I know Emma, and I love Emma, and I’m sure Kim is amazing, and it’s going to be a great season.”

The casting of Kardashian has not been without some fan criticism online, but Rabe has responded to that as well. She feels that series co-creator Ryan Murphy always “knows what he’s doing” and is confident that he will be delivering something special with this latest chapter of American Horror Story. Perhaps it’s best for some of the critics to hold off on that judgment as well.

“Listen, Ryan Murphy knows what he’s doing. He knows what he’s doing, I can say that much.”

Murphy teased when the casting was announced that Kardashian would be taking on a “fun, stylish, and ultimately terrifying role.” Meanwhile, other names that have since been announced for the cast of the new season include Cara Delevingne and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez.

While it will be interesting to see how things turn out, one person who isn’t quite so sold on Kardashian’s casting is Patti LuPone. LuPone, who will appear with Kathryn Hahn in the upcoming Disney+ series Agatha: Coven of Chaos, recently expressed her belief that Kardashian taking on that role takes away work from another actor who would have more benefitted from the part.

“Excuse me, excuse me, Kim. What are you doing with your life? Don’t get on the stage, Mrs. Worthington,” she said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
