Lucifer Season 6 Trailer Announces Netflix Release Date for the Final Episodes

Netflix has officially set a premiere date for the sixth and final season of Lucifer. During the official [email protected] panel for the series on Saturday, it was announced that the last episodes will debut on September 10th, 2021. A new teaser with the official premiere date has also been released online, and you can take a look at it below.

Developed by Tom Kapinos, Lucifer stars Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D.B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Rachael Harris, and Aimee Garcia. Per Deadline, the [email protected] panel also included Ellis joining executive producers Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich to discuss the season 5 revelations ahead of season 6. This includes addressing Dan’s shocking death, which was apparently suggested by actor Kevin Alejandro himself.

“Kevin Alejandro actually pitched us him dying because he’s like, ‘It’s the last season, and everyone has grown to love this character. We were in early goings-on and it sort of stuck with us as we went on. So it’s Kevin’s fault, really,” Henderson joked. “Yeah, he said he wants to go out in a fiery blaze of glory, so he did. And the way that his characters shifted in particular like he’s kind of a grumpy cop in season one and he’s become this lovable teddy bear in the light in these last few seasons, he’s a joy.” When asked if Lucifer would continue to get involved with cases, he added: “Oh, I think it’s in his DNA now… There may be the odd thing to solve but he’s got a lot of mysteries to solve, to be honest in season 6.”

It’s hard to accept that this really is the end of Lucifer after the series had been saved multiple times in the past. Originally, it aired for three seasons on Fox until it was controversially cancelled, prompting a fan campaign to save the series. A month later, Netflix ordered a fourth season, and Lucifer only grew more popular once finding its new home. This inspired the streamer to order a fifth season, which was announced at the time as the final season of Lucifer. Last year, they reversed course to order one more season after all.

The devil made us do it. Lucifer will return for a sixth and final season. like, FINAL final,” Netflix tweeted at the time of the renewal, making it clear that there won’t be a season 7.

It remains possible we could see Ellis appearing in other projects as the character, as he did have a cameo in DC’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event in 2019. Although that is definitely not quite the same as new episodes of Lucifer, it does mean the door is open for other DC projects to bring the character back. The appearance was set five years before the events of Lucifer and showed that he was very aware of the multiverse.

The sixth and final season of Lucifer will premiere on Netflix on September 10th, 2021. Meanwhile, you can currently stream the first five seasons of the hit series on the streamer.
